A Bit About ...

Jane Tuff

Jane Tuff Jazz Musician

I am based in East Grinstead West Sussex where it is easy to get to gigs in the south east. I work locally at a private school and have a home teaching practice which includes individual pupils from age 8 to adults in their 60’s. I bring them together in a saxophone ensemble and a mixed wind group.

I was born in Essex and took up the clarinet when I was 8, saxophone at 11 and flute at 15. All my lessons were with the county council music services which was a thriving department and gave me so much opportunity.

Performing & Teaching

By the age of 17 I was working with a resident Big Band and soul band gigs, I considered myself a freelance musician.

After school I continued my studying at The London College of Music and The Royal Academy. At this time I was also gigging 5/6 nights a week in London.

From College I went on to West End and touring shows, European shows, Big Bands and various ensemble. I first started teaching in schools straight from college and haven’t stopped since.

I love playing and teaching and for me they go hand in hand.
